Kumar’s suicide note, which he specifically requested “not to ignore,” reads like a blueprint of sophisticated psychological manipulation. The story begins with a phone call from someone identifying himself as Vikram Goswami, claiming to be from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and possessing an arrest warrant in Kumar’s name.

The initial demand was relatively modest by today’s standards: Rs 1.95 lakh. Terrified by the prospect of arrest, Kumar complied. But as with most extortion schemes, the first payment only marked the beginning of a relentless cycle of harassment.

The fake CBI officer’s calls became increasingly frequent, each time demanding more money to be transferred to various bank accounts. Over time, Kumar had transferred a staggering Rs 11 lakh likely representing his entire life savings and more.
