In the era dominated by screens, machines, and the digital world we have left nature far behind. In the bustling phase of the modern world where we are busy more than ever, we have designated nature as our backdrop the most we see nature would be on our screens the scenery it once was. Yet, as Henry David Thoreau, once said, “In wildness is the preservation of the world.” His words resonate with urgency today, urging us to reconnect with the natural world not merely as an escape but as a necessary revival of our spirits.

Thoreau’s retreat to Walden Pond was an act of simplicity. He wrote, “I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not when I came to die, discover that I had not lived.” this sentiment, really make us ponder and question our engagement with the world around us. Are we truly living or merely existing?

In my journey, I have tried to acknowledge Thoreau’s call, in modest ways. Living in an urban area we have left nature far behind, I have found small intentional acts can develop deeper value to nature. Daily walks in the park, tending to a modest garden, or simply taking moments to observe the changing seasons through my window have become acts of mindfulness. These practices are my version of “living deliberately,” making me notice the nature that too goes unnoticed most of the time

Famed naturalist John Muir, another advocate for nature’s impact on the human spirit, once wrote, “And into the forest, I go, to lose my mind and find my soul.” his adventures underline the restorative power of nature, a theme that modern science continues to support. Studies have shown that spending time in nature reduces stress, enhances mood, and improves overall mental health. Muir’s and Thoreau’s legacies remind us that our disconnect from nature is not just a physical separation but a psychological and spiritual one.

Yet, reconnection with nature does not require remote retreats or doing something out of the ordinary. It can be as simple as observing a bird’s flight, going out feeling the wind, going to the beach, and feeling the sound of the waves. These small moments are accessible to all. They remind us that nature is an integral part of our existence, deserving our attention.

As we navigate the complexities of the modern world, let us remember Thoreau’s call to live deliberately, and Muir’s adventures into the soul-soothing wilderness. By embracing these lessons, we can rediscover our connection to nature.
