What do you see when you look in the mirror?

She ranted and raved to her husband; she was unhappy that he was talking to another woman on his phone. Her husband turned, smiled, and said:

“You just need to see the person you are complaining about; she is not worth your time.”

What do you see when you look in the mirror?

Do you see who you are?

I met another beautiful lady, and she said to me, “The other day, someone took my boyfriend, so this time, I am wild.” I was so sad to hear her say that, and I looked at her and said, “If only you knew who you were, you would not do this to yourself.”

Take a good look at yourself in a mirror under the right lighting, and you’ll see what a wonderful person you are.

The mirror, and the light.

God’s word in the Bible is referred to as a mirror:

If you listen to the word, but do not put it into practice, you are like people who look in a mirror and see themselves as they are. They take a good look at themselves and then go away and at once forget what they look like. (James 1:23–24)

Three things we must consider:

1. God’s word is a mirror that shows us who we are: strengths, weaknesses, flaws, and imperfections.
2. Take a good look at yourself in the mirror (the physical and spiritual mirror)
3. Do not forget who you look like in the physical mirror, and put into practice what the spiritual mirror reveals.

God’s word is described as a light and a mirror; light and mirror work together so that we can properly see things.

Your word is a lamp to guide me and a light for my path. (Psalm 119:105)

Jesus is the light we carry with us every day, as we look into the physical and spiritual mirror.

Jesus spoke to the Pharisees again. “I am the light of the world,” he said. “Whoever follows me will have the light of life and will never walk in darkness.” (John 8:12)

Jesus is also described as the Word of God. When we have Jesus, we have the mirror and light.

In the beginning, the Word already existed; the Word was with God, and the Word was God. (John 1:1)

The Word was the source of life, and this life brought light to people. (John 1:4)

What do you see in the mirror? Do you see who God has made you?

Prayer: Dear Lord, help me to see who you have created me to be when I look into the mirror. Please also help me never forget what you reveal to me in the mirror (the physical and the spiritual). Help me carry with me every day, Jesus, who is light and the Word of God. In Jesus Name, Amen.
