You were that someone I thought was capable of piecing back together the broken parts of me.

You were that someone I thought was willing to stand by me if worse came to worst.

You were that someone I thought was already the cure to the wounds I was suffering from.

You were that someone I thought was enough to keep me from lifting the dagger.

Instead, you were the one aiming the gun — your finger on the trigger, and I was the target.

You turned out to be the poison when, instead of taking away the knife I was holding, you made me grip it tighter.

You turned out to be the poison when, instead of keeping me from jumping off the cliff, you pushed me.

You turned out to be the poison when, instead of putting a smile on my lips, you left unshed tears at the corners of my eyes.

You turned out to be the poison when, instead of saving me from dying, you mercilessly killed the only reason I had to live.

You turned out to be the poison I foolishly accepted into my life, for I had thought you were the right prescription.
