Though her role often appears to be that of the child caught between her eccentric “parents,” her presence fundamentally transforms the lives of Loid Forger, a master spy, and Yor Forger, a lethal assassin. Anya’s story is also deeply intertwined with characters such as Franky Franklin and Yuri Briar, who may initially seem to be on the periphery of the main plot but are drawn closer into the Forgers’ orbit because of her influence. Each of these lives is defined by secrecy, suspicion, and manipulation. Yet Anya manages to bring warmth and honesty into their interactions, often without even realising she is doing it. In a narrative filled with lies and covert agendas, she is one of the few characters whose motives are simple and pure: to keep her family together and to see the people she loves happy.

This purity does not make her naive. Anya often uses her telepathy to navigate complex social situations, sometimes with surprising cunning for her age. Whether it is manipulating events to protect her parents’ cover, finding ways to help Loid’s mission without revealing her secret, or managing her relationships at school, Anya consistently demonstrates resourcefulness. This resourcefulness not only helps drive the plot forward but also deepens the viewer’s or reader’s appreciation for her as a fully realised character rather than a token “cute kid” archetype.
