THE FINAL CHAPTER

My first thought as I write this piece is to begin with a disclaimer (insert flashing RED light here), names and any other positively identifying characteristics have been changed to protect the innocent. Okay, so now that most of the legalities have been dispensed with, let’s move on.

Of course, most of the prior comments were tongue in cheek in nature. There will be no actual names mentioned here because the statements or declarations here are of a broad source. It is sweeping commentary on “us” (society) in general and yes before anyone says, you shouldn’t include everyone because we are not all like that, we’re not a monolith, I agree. There are decent, kind, intelligent (not necessarily book knowledge intelligence) and empathetic people of all creeds and nationalities. I'm neither speaking of nor to those individuals.

I am speaking of and to the ones of us, and by us, I mean you (chuckle if you wish) that are walking, talking and breathing everyday but are clueless to what is happening all around them. Whether that cluelessness is deliberate or because they are willfully ignorant doesn't really matter to this story. The consequences are the same.

I have seen a lot of things in my lifetime but the exploits that are unfolding currently are surely some of the most disturbing. This is not a political rant, politics aside, because it is not people's politics that are at issue here. It doesn’t matter about who you think politically is a better human, it's about who are better human beings in general. It's about who of us are the thinkers, the doers, the compassionates, the ones who see through the muck, and who of those are the followers of anything that is thrown at them; the good, the bad, the indifferent. It's all the same to them. The ones who subscribe to the rhetoric, the bluster, the doings whether or not it is right, just, or downright evil. The Sheeple!

I actually don’t like to use sheep as an analogy to describe people who are willingly and often gleefully led off a mountain cliff. Sheep are generally beautiful, mild and sensitive creatures. I will though because most people understand the connotation of the word “sheep” when it is used to denote following a not so beneficial course. In the Scriptures when Jesus says the phrase, ‘feed my sheep,’ most will know that he is speaking of his followers. The people who try, and I say try, because it is often not easy to be a follower of Jesus. It is a journey of a million miles. The context that I am using here belongs to those who don't bother to think about what they're doing, there is no time for pondering consequences, no time for using fellow feeling (concern for ones other than self), no time for thinking about the overall harm that they are perpetuating on themselves and others.

We are living in a period of time where changes are coming rapidly. Everyday there is a new race to see who can hit the bottom quicker. We see events unfolding that are changing the course of humanity yet and still we continue to “follow,” to acquiesce, to give up our powers of reason for fool’s gold. We were all given the gift of free will. We are all allowed to make the choices that we feel are true and beneficial, but I implore you to use those gifts wisely. Stop having your ears tickled by those who are not looking out for your best interest, those who have ulterior motives, those who are selfish not selfless!

We are at the precipice of happenings so monumental that we cannot totally imagine it, things that on a grand scale will change the world as we know it. Where will you be when this happens? What will you be doing? Will you be adding to the confusion, strife, and pain? Or will you be attempting to heal yourself and others? Only you know the answers to these questions. I can only hope that it is the latter of these that will be your mission.

This is the final chapter, a reckoning of sorts. Being a sheep is good, being Sheeple, not so much!
