A Cloudsmen Story for Kids

In the realm of the Skydome, where the Cloudsmen dwell, there lived a Cloud-fellow named Stratus. Stratus was known for his calm and gentle nature, always bringing a sense of tranquility to the Cloudsmen’s kingdom. But deep within his heart, Stratus carried a longing to witness the beauty of a radiant rainbow.

You see, the Cloudsmen had heard tales of the magnificent rainbows that appeared in the world below, spanning across the vast landscapes. Stratus, with his curious spirit, yearned to see one with his own eyes.

One day, Stratus approached King Cumulus with a request. “Your Majesty,” he said, his voice filled with anticipation, “I wish to embark on a quest to find and witness a radiant rainbow. I long to witness its vibrant colors and bask in its enchanting glow.”

King Cumulus, wise and understanding, nodded with a smile. “Go forth, Stratus,” he said, “and may the winds guide ye on your journey. Remember, the Skydome is vast and filled with wonders. Heed the wisdom of your fellow cloudsmen, and ye shall find what ye seek.”

With the king’s blessing, Stratus set off on his quest. He soared up through the sky, his eyes scanning the horizon for any sign of the elusive rainbow.

First he had talked with Cirrus the Wizard in his tower, who shepherded the wispy, delicate clouds that danced high above. But Cirrus spoke only of tales of common rainbows appearing after a gentle rain, their feathery forms reflecting the sunlight in a kaleidoscope of colors.

Stratus had spoken with Alta, shepherdess of the fluffy clouds that often formed in layers. She shared stories of rainbows appearing amidst scattered showers, when sunlight pierced through the breaks in the clouds.

Finally, Stratus had visited the castle kitchen, where Cumulo raved about the majestic thunderheads that held within them the power of storms. He warned him of the storms that often accompanied rainbows and advised him to be patient and resilient.

Stratus heeded their wisdom, continuing forth on his quest with unwavering determination. And then, one day, as he soared through the sky, he spotted it — a shimmering arc of colors stretching across the horizon. He had seen a scattered shower, just as Alta had advised, and he jumped quickly lower to where the sunlight might suddenly break or pierce through.

And there it was — suddenly — a radiant rainbow, just as he had dreamed, only now so close it vanished as he passed inside it.

Stratus hovered beneath the rainbow, his heart filled with joy and awe. He marvelled at the vibrant hues that painted the sky, each colour blending seamlessly into the next. He saw also how it reached down into the lowlands below, where the earthy-folk lived. He wondered how they could possibly fail to look up and be moved by such a sight. It was an artwork that filled his spirit with a sense of wonder and reminded him of the beauty that reached beyond the Skydome.

Filled with gratitude, Stratus returned to the castle, eager to share his tale with his fellow Cloudsmen. He regaled them with stories of his journey, and of the wisdom he had gained from the breath-taking beauty of the radiant rainbow. He would always continue in his role of spreading low clouds across the sky just in the hope that he would witness one again.
