Migrating DataStage Assets from IKC CP4D to IKC SaaS

Migrating assets between environments is a common requirement, but the built-in project-level export/import capability comes with an important limitation: it only supports migrations within the same experience and platform. In other words, you cannot directly export project assets from an IBM Cloud experience and import them into a project on IBM Software Hub.

This blog outlines a simple and effective procedure to migrate DataStage assets from IKC CP4D to IKC SaaS.

Exporting DataStage Assets from CP4D

1. Log in to your CP4D environment and open the project containing the DataStage assets.
2. Select the DataStage assets you want to migrate.
3. Click on the Download option.
4. The selected assets will be exported as a ZIP file to your local system.

Importing DataStage Assets into IKC SaaS

1. Log in to your IKC SaaS environment.
2. Create a new project where the assets will be imported.
3. Navigate to: New Asset → Transform and Integrate Data → Create a DataStage Flow (Local File)
4. Upload the ZIP file exported from CP4D.
5. Click Create to complete the import process.

Conclusion

While direct cross-platform project migration is not supported, the approach outlined above provides a practical procedure for migrating DataStage assets across different platforms. By exporting the assets as a ZIP file and importing them into a target project, you can seamlessly move DataStage assets between IKC CP4D and IKC SaaS. This method works in both directions, enabling migration from CP4D to SaaS as well as from SaaS back to CP4D.
