An Overview of Nigeria’s Continued Rise to Global Prominence: Securing a Seat at TOSSD

Nigeria has achieved a significant milestone in its quest for global recognition and influence, securing a seat at the Total Official Support for Sustainable Development Goals (TOSSD) as a major player. This accomplishment is a testament to the country’s unwavering commitment to sustainable development and its efforts to bridge educational and professional gaps in countries in need of skilled manpower.

According to Rt. Hon. Yusuf Buba Yakub, Director-General of the Nigerian Technical Aid Corps (NTAC), Nigeria’s acceptance as a member of TOSSD is a direct result of its 38-year contribution to sustainable development through the Technical Aid Corps (TAC) Scheme.

“Nigeria was then given a membership seat and was also adopted into the Steering Committee of TOSSD. Nigeria is now accepted as a full-time member of TOSSD,” Yakub said.

Speaking at the ongoing General Assembly Meeting of TOSSD in Madrid, Spain, Yakub expressed his appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his unwavering support and dedication to sustainable development goals.

“We commend President Tinubu for his commitment to sustainable development goals and the renewed energy with which the current administration has pursued the vision of a great Nigeria on many fronts, including the global arena,” Yakub noted.

TOSSD is a multilateral development cooperation framework headquartered in Paris, France, designed to provide a comprehensive picture of international support for the UN’s 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Its members include countries such as France, Greece, Norway, and Qatar, as well as organizations like the Organization of American States.

Nigeria’s membership is particularly significant as it recognizes the nation’s long-standing efforts to promote sustainable development across the globe. Yakub emphasized that Nigeria’s inclusion will enable it to contribute more effectively to global development initiatives.

This milestone reflects Nigeria’s growing influence in global affairs and its sustained commitment to promoting peace, security, and development. As the country continues to play a leading role in regional and international organizations, its seat at TOSSD further cements its dedication to sustainable development and global cooperation.
