Datirium Receives Phase II TVSF Award from the State of Ohio to Develop its Scientific Data Analysis Platform, SciDAP

Cincinnati, OH — Datirium, LLC has been awarded a $150,000 Phase II grant from the Ohio Third Frontier Technology Validation and Start-Up Fund (TVSF). This grant will assist with the development of SciDAP, a user-friendly data analysis platform for modern biology. Datirium recently executed an exclusive license to the underlying technologies and code with Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center.

The massive proliferation of next-generation sequencing (NGS) — based methods for the analysis of genome sequence, gene expression, chromatin structure and protein-DNA interactions has created tremendous opportunities for gaining novel insights into fundamental biology, health, and disease. However, analysis of the resulting data requires computational expertise that many traditional biologists do not possess.

“Datirium was founded to bridge this new kind of digital divide: between smart people and cutting-edge technologies.” said Datirium’s co-founder, Dr. Artem Barski. “Our novel data analysis platform, SciDAP, will allow scientists to perform routine analysis of their data quickly and reproducibly.”

Earlier, with the funding from Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) phase I grant program administered by the National Human Genome Research Institute, a part of National Institutes of Health, Datirium developed a prototype of the SciDAP platform and computational pipelines for analysis of single cell gene expression data. Building on these accomplishments, with the support of TVSF, Datirium aims to improve the user interface and add administrator dashboard to the platform.

Datirium is entering a rapidly growing market for bioinformatic data analysis that is estimated to reach $14B by 2023 with explosive growth estimated at 14.2% (CAGR) by Markets and Markets. Quickly bringing the platform to scientists is critical for its success.
