worldly desires and the ultimate reality of leaving this world empty-handed.

“ हसरतें पूरी हो जाती सारी दिल की,

(Even if all the desires of the heart were to be fulfilled,)

कम्बख्त फिर भी जाना हैं खाली हाथ जहाँ से |”

(Yet, alas, one ultimately has to depart from this world empty-

handed.)
