The Amazon is too big to fail. Brazil still can make it!

September 5, 2024, is the Amazon Day.

Brazil has little to celebrate, but I am very hopeful that we will see a better Amazon in the future.

We have seen a rise in fires even with a great reduction in deforestation, worsened by a severe drought, due to climate change.

The more fires, the greater the difficulty of natural regeneration of vegetation, thus compromising the forest socio-biodiversity.

More than half of our riverine brothers, indigenous people, caboclos, and everyone else, are at risk of being isolated by extreme drought because the rivers are no longer navigable.

There are more than 80 thousand illegal mining sites in the Amazon, affecting 140 indigenous lands.

We cannot accept this situation.

Brazil and the world cannot afford to lose the largest tropical forest on planet Earth.

Our Amazonian brothers and sisters deserve their land forever!

And do you know the solutions?

Command and control, and Bioeconomy.

I’ll give you some examples:

- Punish all crimes of land grabbing;

- Punish illegal loggers and all those who set fire to nature.

Encourage and support all firefighters, giving then more conditions for their work, with higher salaries, supporting equipment, especially aircraft.

It also makes intensive use of image intelligence to quickly detect fires and deforestation outbreaks, with effective framing of offenders within the environmental crimes law.

There is much more to say, but these measures would already help us a lot to combat deforestation, illegal possession, and fires in the Amazon!

The other solution for the Amazon forest conservation is to improve the bioeconomy policies. Make forest products more valuable and reach more markets, always with fair trade with local producers.

The difficulties are immense, in the size of the Amazon. To overcome them, we need, first of all, public incentive policies and, yes, subsidies, so that there is competitiveness of Amazonian products.

We are talking about a “New Green Deal”, on top of the measures to make the Standing Forest worth more than cut.

Brazil’s sovereignty comes along the Standing Forest!

If Brazil stops deforesting and burning the Amazon and Cerrado (Brazilian Savanna), it will become a highly respected nation worldwide.

BRAZIL CAN BECOME THE WORLD’S GREATEST LEADER IN THE FIGHT AGAINST CLIMATE CHANGE. I’M SURE OF THAT.

Brazil will seat in the world climate meetings with a stand ovation, revered as the nation that overcame its climate challenge. And so, Brazil will have a lot of voice and financial resources to be further developed as a truly sustainable country.

Time is now.

The Amazon is too big to fail!
