Oskar is glorified by the Jews as a savior and generous man , he at first wants to protect is investments in them as employees , he’s told constantly throughout the film, not to be concerned with the morale treatment of the Jews and that their lives are insignificant, but to them they need so much more they make him money and when they die off, he loses money and that hurts him , it makes him look at them for more and eventually the money isn’t even the motive and their lives are the new goals to save. He now has the responsibility to speak up for them and to defend them. He can’t save them all.

How much snow can you shovel before it buries you?

In the film Oskar is a black market dealer goods for cash , he uses the war as an opportunity to make money , business is good for him and does good business honoring his end of the deal with the Jews, at first, he doesn’t seem to have much of a moral code regarding the way the Jews are being treated, but as things escalate and more, Jews are slaughtered right before his face he grows a soft spot for the Jews and his actions changes from selfish to selfless, and you can see his efforts to help the Jews anyway that he can without even if it gets him in a little bit of trouble with his peers.

No place to hide even in the dark they are found

There are Jews everywhere, they are brought to the city and some already living in the city’s , ghetto are built for the incoming Jews, and they are limited to their freedom and robbed of all their possessions and valuable, they are not told what is happening to them or what is going to happen to them, they didn’t know they had to hide until it was too late, I wonder what the Jews, who were already living in the city thoughts of the treatment of the incoming Jews put into the ghettos, I see them kicking in doors and purging the Jews in the community as well , the kids are afraid, they hide everywhere under the floors in the walls and sad to say even in the toilet for protection , there’s nowhere to run or nowhere to hide for them. I will forever see them.

Final thoughts

Oskar throughout the movie thought he knew what it was to be a businessman with an understanding for the value of human life through a business perspective of war being a good thing for an economy to flourish he figured business was good as long as he carved out his piece of the pie he was suffice, not knowing that there is a steeper cost to continue doing business would shake his morals to his very core until he understood the value of just one life with literally the clothes on his back in the vehicle that he rode away with at the end of the movie, crying understanding the full value of Life meaning and everything that it holds and entails a religion a persons a mother, a father, a brother, a sister. In the film, the general asked him how much was a life worth to him I feel that. Oskars views of a human life definitely changed through out the movie. He was able to save as many as he could his efforts do not go unrecognized.

I would ask the Germans why did they choose to behave that way towards another human life? Are they satisfied with the results that they got? Is it humane to be so merciless?
