I have been renting out generators in Lahore since 2006.

That is two decades of experience. In that time I have seen customers make the a few same mistakes over and over.

That does not means they are careless but because nobody tells them this stuff upfront.

So here is everything I wish people asked me before booking.

Get the KVA Right First

In my opinion, this is the most common mistake.

People either book too small and the generator trips under load or they book something much bigger than they need.

A rough guide that works for most situations in Lahore:

➤ Small sites during load shedding — 20 to 30 KVA is usually enough

➤ Small office or shop — 30 to 50 KVA

➤ Restaurant, school or clinic — 50 to 100 KVA

➤ Wedding marquee — 100 to 250 KVA depending on the size

➤ Factory sites — 125 KVA and above depending on your machinery

Silent or Open Frame — It Matters More than People Think

If you are running a generator at a wedding, hospital, residential area or an office then you want a silent soundproof canopy set.

The difference in noise level is significant.

An open frame generator running outside a marquee will be heard inside the hall. A silent canopy set barely registers.

Open frame sets are perfectly fine for construction sites, industrial plots and outdoor work where noise is not an issue.

Fuel is Not Included And That is Actually Better for You

Standard practice across Lahore is that diesel fuel is not part of the rental price.

You arrange the diesel yourself.

This is because you buy fuel at market rate, you know exactly how much is going in and there is no room for anyone to charge you inflated fuel costs.

Always Ask for a Proper Invoice

A lot of generator rental services in Lahore still happen on a handshake. But if something goes wrong you have no protection.

If you are renting for a business, an event or any situation where you need documentation, simply ask for an FBR registered invoice before you confirm the booking.

A Note on Emergency Rentals

I get calls at 2am fairly regularly.
