Rainy day, dream away

droplets, flick off the wavering trees, shower me indeed i love the abundant trees, the wood, the forest soaked; i spot the full-throated bastions of wet in their nests. thrushes, cheerfully soaked, singing on the swinging branch; at night deep quiet: their breeding has been done: fledglings seek a path through the rain in the air scattering raindrops as they shyly flap their wings I am bedraggled now, envious and tired, rain comforts me; on these crowded islands, replete with rain: rarely tempestuous, mostly mild, like the people: slow to storm, but persistent; now I hear the sound of rain on windows or in puddles, the same sounds as when I was a boy whispering ‘ship ahoy’ at the merest mention of water; now in these latter days, upon this fractured isle, the rain slides down my window, unspent.
