In a World Where Size Matters

The most unassuming and unaggressive organ dominates

We canna win with claws or venom or fang. But still, we rose to the top of the food chain.

We wouldn’t be the victor in a tussle with either a bear or a boa constrictor. We‘re here because it’s not about muscle.

It’s about the mind, and opposable thumbs. If evolution has taught man anything, it’s that might alone succumbs.

Man's modest physicality required means to outwit prey and neutralize their innate lethality.

But at reasoning, humans were not yet adept. Until the appearance of Homo Habilis, humans were reasonably inept.

But Homo Habilis’ brain being larger gave man the ability to apply critical reasoning, which augmented problem-solving like a turbocharger.

Man’s newfound ability to rationalize fostered the creation of all manner of means, from crafting weapons to wearing a stealthy disguise.

Brain power is certainly why we got here. That it will be why we’ll crash and burn is also clear. Man’s desire to domineer will someday incinerate our sphere.
