What Certifications Should a Trustworthy A2 Ghee Brand Have in India?

One mark means something. Multiple marks mean they’re actually serious about quality.

Walk into a ghee shop, and you’ll notice something.

It is clear from the brands that know how to represent themselves; they are covered in certification logos on their product packages. There are many of them. It seems like too much until one understands what each of them means.

Here’s what you should actually be looking for.

Agmark Is the Starting Point

Agmark-certified A2 ghee isn’t optional if you want genuine assurance.

This is India’s government quality mark for food products. It means the ghee cleared testing for purity, fat content, and moisture levels and that it genuinely came from cow milk. It’s not the brand’s promise. It’s an independent authority’s confirmation.

Without Agmark, you’re basically just hoping the brand is honest.

FSSAI License Is Non-Negotiable

Food Safety and Standards Authority of India licensing is a baseline requirement.

If a brand doesn’t have this, they’re literally operating outside regulatory oversight. That’s not a minor detail. That’s the difference between a business following food safety rules and one that decides rules don’t apply.

Check the license number on their packaging or website. It should be verifiable.

ISO Certification Matters More Than You Think

ISO 22000 certification for food safety management shows the brand has actual systems in place.

It’s not just one batch meeting standards. It’s the entire process, the facilities, the record keeping, and all of it audited and certified. Brands with ISO certification are operating at a different level of seriousness.

Lab Reports Should Be Publicly Available

Real brands share their testing results.

Sri Ganapathi Ghee publishes lab reports showing fat content, purity tests, and absence of adulterants. If a brand keeps its testing results private or won’t show them, that hesitation is telling you something worth listening to.

A2 Certification From Verifiable Sources

Make sure the A2 claim itself is verified, not just printed.

Some organizations and testing labs specifically certify A2 milk sourcing. The brand should be able to point to that verification. Not just the word “A2” on a label, but actual proof that the source is A2 cow milk.

Why Multiple Certifications Matter

One certification helps. Multiple certifications from different authorities mean the brand isn’t just meeting one standard. They’re meeting several. That kind of verification layering only happens when a brand actually cares about staying honest.
