Storefront & Checkout Management: Best checkout platforms for monetizing game servers
You can spin up a server in an afternoon, but as soon as you try to monetize it you are no longer running a hobby but rather an international business. You are selling virtual goods to players on different devices, in different countries, with different payment preferences and different fraud risks. In my experience, dispute handling kills more projects than botched fulfillment. Here’s how I evaluate the options.
First, define the two terms that decide everything
- In-game delivery (a.k.a. fulfillment): automatically granting the purchased item, role, or perk in-game via plugin, API, or command execution. If you are doing this manually, your checkout is not the bottleneck, you are.
- Merchant of Record (MoR): the platform becomes the legal seller for the transaction and handles things like sales tax and VAT calculation and remittance, payment processing, and dispute and chargeback workflows. You still run your brand and storefront. MoR just absorbs a lot of the payment admin and liability.
My recommendation: For most server owners, use an MoR; taxes and disputes sink side projects. With global chargeback rates on the rise, the ‘hidden cost’ of a DIY setup is skyrocketing. One bad weekend of disputes can wipe out a month’s profit and get your personal PayPal or Stripe account blacklisted.”
Decision criteria
The five filters I use when someone asks “best checkout” for servers:
- Integration and in-game delivery, official plugins, webhooks, or a headless API for programmatic fulfillment.
- Tax and compliance, specifically whether you want a Merchant of Record to collect and remit VAT and sales tax, or if you will handle remittance and reporting yourself.
- Fraud and chargebacks, who handles disputes, and who bears the financial loss when a chargeback is lost.
- Global payments and payouts, can players pay with local methods and how predictable are payouts to your bank or payment rail.
- UX and pricing, is the checkout mobile-friendly, are fees transparent, and how much developer work will integration require.
The main platform categories and trade-offs
1) Server-specific storefronts, such as Tebex, CraftingStore, and Seyllo
Best when you want fast setup and server-native delivery.
Tebex is often chosen when you want the business stuff handled as well, because it offers an MoR option, automated tax handling, and dispute management, plus official server integrations and a customizable store builder. Tebex says it has processed over $1.5 billion and supports 120 to 150 plus payment methods, with an average settlement cadence stated around seven days.
- Trade-off: tighter control and built-in protections can reduce flexibility and may come with higher fees.
CraftingStore and Seyllo can be simpler for small setups, but they leave taxes and compliance to you and do not offer an MoR option.
- Trade-off: you keep more control and lower platform lock-in, but you take on tax, dispute, and compliance work.
2) Game and enterprise commerce platforms, such as Xsolla
Best when you are operating closer to a studio with broader product and monetization needs. You get deep tooling and broad global reach, but onboarding can be more complex and pricing often moves to custom contracts.
- Trade-off: enterprise capabilities at the cost of more complex integration and higher minimums.
3) General payment gateways and platforms, such as Stripe, PayPal, and Shopify
Best when you have developer resources and want maximum control. Lower processing fees can be offset by tax, fulfillment, and dispute costs. Gateways are powerful, but they are not server commerce systems.
- Trade-off: full control requires building your own fulfillment, tax, and dispute stack, which costs dev time and operational effort.
Quick comparison

Best checkout platforms for monetizing game servers
Practical checklist: which should I pick?
- Do I need automatic in-game delivery out of the box?
- Do I want a Merchant of Record to handle tax and compliance?
- If disputes spike, can I afford to fight chargebacks and absorb lost funds plus fees?
- Are my players international enough that local payment methods will materially move conversion?
- Do I want to spend time building commerce infrastructure, or building the server experience?
If you remember one thing
If your goal is to sell perks and items without becoming a tax and disputes manager, Tebex is a common choice for server operators I speak with. Tebex bundles storefront, checkout, and delivery integrations with an MoR option, and claims protections that directly address the ugly parts of running a store.
