On the Fourth of July

We are at a very dangerous moment, and I want to address this. Because leaders in the federal government are not even a little coded. They want an ethnic cleansing of the country. And I will bring some receipts, because the posts are connected to this as well, Patriot Front marching openly in DC. I am using the Patriot Front post photo as well. Ignore this, and this will get worse. And the Paradox of Tolerance comes to mind. First, what Patriot Front stands for:

Now, we have been in this moment before, and open societies are always at risk. But theirs is protected speech! Even if I find the ideas repellent! This is what Karl Popper had to write about this subject at the end of the Second World War:

Unlimited tolerance must lead to the disappearance of tolerance. If we extend unlimited tolerance even to those who are intolerant, if we are not prepared to defend a tolerant society against the onslaught of the intolerant, then the tolerant will be destroyed, and tolerance with them. In this formulation, I do not imply, for instance, that we should always suppress the utterance of intolerant philosophies; as long as we can counter them by rational argument and keep them in check by public opinion, suppression would certainly be most unwise. But we should claim the right to suppress them if necessary even by force; for it may easily turn out that they are not prepared to meet us on the level of rational argument, but begin by denouncing all argument; they may forbid their followers to listen to rational argument, because it is deceptive, and teach them to answer arguments by the use of their fists or pistols. We should therefore claim, in the name of tolerance, the right not to tolerate the intolerant.

Yes, it is protected speech. That does not matter I need to tolerate this, and open permission for these people to openly march on Capitol Hill and speak like this. They will not give you those rights if they fully take power. Now we also have the President of the United States and his aide openly referencing The Camp of the Saints, a basic book in the far-right canon and, fair warning, a very badly written novel.

So here are the two tweets in question.

This is why Patriot Front is marching openly in DC on July 4. They are not even a little unclear about what they want. This is what birthright citizenship, a case they lost in the Supreme Court, was about. This is what they mean. They want to close the country to all, except white Europeans, who fun fact are not coming to the United States. Their quality of life is much better in Europe. This is why the US is importing Afrikaans as well:

The US government has said it will increase the number of white South Africans it admits as refugees this year from about 7,500 to 17,500, claiming that “unforeseen developments in South Africa created an emergency refugee situation.”

Since starting his second term in office last year, Donald Trump has repeatedly made false claims that white Afrikaners are racially targeted and face a “white genocide”, which South Africa’s government has furiously rebutted.

His administration also cut aid to South Africa, boycotted the G20 summit in Johannesburg last year and disinvited South Africa from this year’s G20, which will be held at one of Trump’s resorts in Miami.

The US began admitting white South Africans as refugees in May 2025, while suspending the refugee settlement programme for people fleeing war and persecution in countries including Afghanistan, the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Sudan. In the year ending in September 2024, the last full fiscal year before Trump took office, the US admitted more than 100,000 refugees.

What is this about? It is about shaping the country’s ethnic future. Which, at this point, is headed towards a majority-minority country. This is creating a lot of racial anxiety for whites, especially working-class whites who blame minorities for all their ills.

Fascism is also built on grievances, and this is what we are watching take shape. But also on permissive structures that allow people to engage in these performances of force because they know they are protected. This happened as well in the 1920s; it was the Klan who did it back then. And these people are not different from the Klan. They have always been with us, but for many decades, their views were not openly expressed. Because we, as a society, did not tolerate these views in the open.

Some were out in the open until the 1970s. But they had to go underground, or the watering hole, or the secret meeting at home with a few friends. The permissive structures at this point allow them to openly flaunt the racism. And if you are a member of any minority, religious, or melanin based, could be both, you are ultimately on the menu. So yes, this Fourth of July, it is not just a barbecue. It is also about what those documents promised, as imperfect as they were. And what we want for the next 250 years, or at least the next generation.

The fight to preserve our multicultural society is now. The fight for the ideals of independence is also here. And we also should admit to ourselves that this did not include the First Peoples, and we practiced genocide. Until the 14th Amendment, it did not include African slaves and their descendants. We are starting to get better about this. Which is also one reason Patriot Front is marching in DC. This is also creating a lot of grievances.
