I got up at 6:30. After dressing, I checked out of the hostel at 7:50 to board the bus departing at 8:20. Having taken a nap on the bus, I arrived in Trento at 11:30. I had included this city in my itinerary to visit the Italian Alps. I wanted to visit Cortina d’Ampezzo, the host city of the upcoming Winter Olympics, but the accommodation fee was out of my budget. I checked in at the B&B, today’s accommodation, at 12:10. Upon a short break, I went out.

Sitting in a German restaurant selected randomly, I ordered strangolapreti. Although I heard that it was gnocchi made of spinach, the actual dish tasted like less pasta. So it confused me. For dessert, I also ordered an apple strudel. The restaurant served slowly, especially for dessert, and I stayed there rather protracted.

Owing to the hotter-than-expected weather outside the restaurant, I called into a gelateria. My selections were lemon, tiramisu and strudel. The apple one was nice, but the tiramisu was rather delectable. Though I had eaten tiramisu-flavoured gelato during this sojourn, this was the best.

Being stuffed after the gelato, I strolled around the city to promote digestion. When I was sitting on a bench at Giardini Pubblici and was comforted by many birds swimming, a man suddenly tried to chat me up. Although I said that I was not interested in him, his persistence discomforted me. He repeated “Please understand me”, but the more persistent he was, the more I didn’t want to understand him.

Giving him the slip, I got on a cable car. Seeing it on my way from the bus stop to the accommodation, I was interested in it. I decided to fully enjoy nature, because today I neither visit cathedrals nor churches, and the return tickets cost only €5.00. I arrived on the hill after a few minutes’ ride. However, nothing caught my eye there. Just a panoramic view of Trento. Even so, I enjoyed the scenery for an hour, and went down to the city centre.

Last night, I used up the shampoo and the conditioner I had brought from London. I would have a shower three times until I return to Japan, but I had no choice but to buy them. While I popped into a drugstore, I didn’t buy them because the conditioner was out of stock. I will buy them tomorrow. Upon half an hour’s rest, I left the B&B to eat out. I ordered a meat dish another German restaurant. The meat was bigger than the one I had eaten in Florence, but I managed to finish the meat and potatoes on the side. I left meat crackling and sauerkraut.

My room in Milan from tomorrow is a dormitory, so today’s bedroom is the last private room during this Italian trip. Therefore, I organised my belongings in my suitcase. In other words, I sorted what I would use in Milan and what I wouldn’t use anymore. I found myself already getting a bit apprehensive about the baggage allowance, even though this journey was so long. How quickly time elapsed!
