Hi, Marti. Hope it doesn’t turn out for you as it did for me, that I began to lose my hearing noticeably in my 40s. Please keep the sound turned down when you are wearing headphones/earbuds. Please note at which sound frequency you have to turn the volume up. If it is low-frequency, go and see your doctor and get a referral to an audiologist right away. If it is high-frequency, turn it up just a tiny bit to where you can hear clearly but it is not LOUD.

Thanks for your insights about TV ads. My mom has worn out several remote controls by fast-forwarding through TV ads on shows she has recorded. She almost NEVER watches TV live any more, except for the last inning of baseball games or the final 4 minutes of the 4th quarter of a basketball game. I can recommend these tactics to you too.
