Yagi

Yagi is an Chrome extension which serves as an external watchlist for networks stored in WiGLE database. Every time someone sends new data about the network you are watching, you will be informed about it.

Installation and configuration

To install Yagi in your browser just go to the Chrome Web Store and click the [Add to Chrome] button. And this is it!

Once you install the extension, browser will display options page (you can go back to it whenever you want by right-clicking the Yagi icon and selecting “Options” from drop-down menu):

To be able to get the information about the networks from WiGLE database you need to provide the API token. You can find it on Your Account page:

Once you provide the valid token. Yagi should welcome you using your WiGLE nickname.

The second option (Refresh every…) is not required. It is used to set the schedule for automatic data refresh. WiGLE API has some limitations (see Limitations section at the end) so you need to choose the frequency very carefully.

Usage

Interface

To display Yagi’s interface click the icon in the extensions toolbar (you may need to click the puzzle icon and pin Yagi if you can’t see it).

Adding network to watchlist

In order to add new network to the watchlist click the [Add Network] button and provide BSSID/MAC:

New network should appear at the bottom of the list with appropriate status (see Statuses below). By clicking on the name of the network or it’s MAC you can display it’s details in WiGLE.

Removing network from watchlist

To remove the network from the list just click the ✕ sign and confirm the action:

Import/Export the watchlist

You can export the watchlist as JSON file and import it back to Yagi by clicking the [Export List] and [Import List] buttons accordingly.

Refreshing data on demand

Even if you set the schedule for automatic refresh in the options, you can always refresh the data manually by clicking [Refresh] button. Yagi will go through the list of networks and send the requests to WiGLE via API. When it gets the response it will update the status of each network.

Statuses

Network statuses are represented by the following colours:

• none: there were no updates;
• green: new data was found (this status is also assigned to newly added networks which are present in WiGLE);
• yellow: network was not found in WiGLE;
• red: error in response (usually displayed when you reach the API limit).

Every status can be “acknowledged” and removed by clicking on it.

Limitations

As I wrote above WiGLE API has some limitations. It is hard to say how many requests you can send daily as those limits are set dynamically accoding to your wardriving activity. You can read about it here and here. Note that if you are going to use WiGLE data for commercial gain, you are required to agree to an additional commercial license.
