The prom committee created a memorial near the entrance to the ballroom. It saluted four class members who lost their lives in the shooting, and also included tributes to two members of the class who died earlier in their high school years. It was a quiet place to sit and think, before entering the ballroom. Four seniors died in the school shooting on Valentine’s Day; Nicholas Dworet, Joaquin Oliver, Meadow Pollack, and Carmen Schentrup. Two other classmates died in 2016. There was also a memorial 17-second silence observed during the prom, to honor the students and teachers and staff who died.

The hotel, the deejay, the florist, and decorator, and other prom vendors donated their services, free or at cost. Hair stylists, make-up artists, dress-makers, tailors, and others donated their skills to help prepare the students for the evening. The hotel offered the ballroom and food for free — a value of about $50,000.00 The price of the tickets were $30.00, down from last year’s price of $125.00 — $140.00.
