Does Writing Every Day Reduce Your Value?

I have not maintained a consistent writing routine since I started writing on the platform almost two years ago.

Medium has helped me to face one of my biggest fears: publishing my own, personal, intimate writings or thoughts, or even topics I just like to share. Although English is not my first language, I have always wanted to write, and I think I express myself good enough in English — sometimes better than in my own, I tell you.

Honestly, I really liked and have been enjoying this little writing twist in my life as I have been exposing some of my ideas and making them public, so others can read and appreciate them while enjoying or learning — maybe one of the pinpoints of public writing, at least here on Medium.

Medium’s interface, quality, and easy management make it a powerhouse platform, but everyone knows consistency is the key discipline for growth and visibility. This naturally raises a crucial question: Does publishing every single day actually diminish your value and the quality of your work?

I would not say a simple yes or no, but it may depend on each writer’s priorities and perspectives regarding their own writing content creation.

While daily output can boost your visibility and potentially increase your follower count, it often comes at a cost. Quality nearly always suffers under the pressure of quantity. Rushing to meet a daily deadline can lead to superficial research, less refined prose, and a lack of the deep thought required for truly impactful content. Your articles might become repetitive, lacking fresh perspectives or innovative insights. This can quickly lead to reader fatigue and a perception that your work is more about clicks than genuine value. Moreover, daily publication leaves little time for reflection, extensive editing, or the development of more ambitious projects.

True value in writing often comes from depth, originality, personal experiences (that you need to lice first) and the time invested in crafting a compelling narrative or a well-researched argument.

When you’re constantly churning out content, you risk burning out and diminishing your passion for writing, which ultimately affects the quality of your output. You just write and publish with no sense of personality, babbling around and focusing on the money, which is never a guarantee.

Instead of trying to overfill your followers’ feeds, a different approach offers a more sustainable path:

  • Prioritise impact over frequency: Try publishing one or two high-quality articles a week, or even one exceptionally well-crafted piece every two weeks.
  • Build a stronger connection: Your readers will genuinely appreciate the deeper dives and more polished work. This fosters a stronger connection, builds a far more valuable reputation over time, and allows them to understand your different niche creations without you repeating yourself.

Ultimately, your long-term value as a writer is built on the impact and resonance of your words, your unique perspectives, and the variety of your creations — not just their sheer volume.
