Enterprise WiFi Design: Why Office Networks Fail Without Structured AP Planning

Most enterprise WiFi problems do not come from hardware limitations.
They come from how the network is designed.
In a 5-floor office building in Kuala Lumpur, a system integrator faced a common issue: inconsistent WiFi experience across floors.
Employees reported dropped video calls when moving between rooms. Some areas had overlapping signals, while others suffered weak coverage. IT teams also struggled with maintenance due to mixed AP brands and lack of structured network design.
This is a typical enterprise WiFi problem.
Enterprise WiFi is not about installing access points. It is about designing how users move, how traffic flows, and how devices are managed.
In this project, COMFAST equipment was deployed to restructure the network based on engineering principles.
Ceiling APs were used for open office areas, while higher-capacity APs were placed in meeting rooms and collaboration zones. A PoE switch system was deployed per floor to simplify installation and improve maintenance visibility.
At the center of the network, a gateway controller enabled centralized management, SSID control, and VLAN segmentation.
From a design perspective, three key principles were applied:
- User density matters more than floor size
- Roaming paths must be planned, not assumed
- Network management is as important as coverage
COMFAST’s enterprise WiFi access point guide highlights the importance of structuring networks around real usage scenarios rather than raw hardware deployment.
The Kuala Lumpur project demonstrates this clearly. Once the network was redesigned, roaming became more predictable, meeting room stability improved, and IT maintenance became significantly easier.
Enterprise WiFi should always be treated as a system, not a collection of devices.
