ANSI is the American National Standards Institute, founded in 1918.

At that time, many American companies and professional technical groups had already begun standardization work, but due to a lack of coordination, numerous conflicts and problems arose.

To further improve efficiency, hundreds of scientific and technological societies, associations, and groups recognized the necessity of establishing a dedicated standardization organization to develop unified and universal standards.

ASME stands for American Society of Mechanical Engineers, therefore, standards conforming to ASME standards are considered ANSI standards.
