Following an “extensive investigation” into the fatal shooting of Whitney Robeson, the Trussville Police Department announced this week that Jeffrey Scott Towers, father of Robeson’s boyfriend, has been arrested.
Towers, 54, was charged with manslaughter two months after the fatal shooting.
The shooting happened about 9:30 p.m. on March 7 at Towers’ home in the 7700 block of Deer Trail in Tussville, near Birmingham.
When EMS and police arrived, they found Robeson with a gunshot wound and transported her to the hospital.
According to the Jefferson County Coroner and Medical Examiner’s Office, Robeson died from “injury to the left lung, heart, and aorta, due to a gunshot wound to the chest.”
Robeson was taken to UAB-St. Vincent’s East, where she was pronounced dead.

Jefferson County Coroner’s Office previously said it was reported to be accidental, but further details surrounding the circumstances of the shooting and how it was an accident have not been made public.
“What happened to Ms. Robeson was a tragic event,” his attorneys, John Amari and Dain Stewart, told People. “While we understand that the justice system must play out … we know that the facts will show that Mr. Towers has no criminal history, has been a productive and upstanding citizen for his entire life and is not guilty of these charges.”

Robeson graduated from Auburn University with a degree in interior design and had just accepted her dream job.
She was remembered as “a woman in the full bloom of her youth” in her obituary, with her family noting that she would have been a “fantastic mother and aunt” in the future. “But it was not to be, and we cannot begin to understand why,” the obituary continued.
“This marvelous, independent woman was on the cusp of her successful career in interior design, the job she had always wanted since she was a little girl watching HGTV,” the obituary read. “To have known Whitney, no matter where, how, why, or for how long, is to have been touched and transformed by her radiant soul.”
According to court documents, the complaint against Towers alleged that he “recklessly caused the death” of Robeson by “shooting her with a firearm.”
Towers was booked into the Jefferson County Jail on Monday and released several hours later after posting $30,000 bond.
A court date has not yet been scheduled for Towers, according to Jefferson County Jail records.
