How to Create an AWS Account in 2026

1. To create an AWS account, go to https://aws.amazon.com/console/ and click Create account.

2. You will be referred to this page. Put in your credentials, and click Verify email address. A Captcha security verification link would be displayed. Fill in the characters and submit.

3. Insert the Verification code sent to the Gmail address you provided earlier.

4. Now create a password for your root user. The root user is the main owner of the account, so do well to ensure that your root user password contains all the characters needed to pass its security test.

5. Choose the account plan that you prefer. We would be going for the free (6 months) plan, since we are using it in a learning environment.

6. Put in your contact information. This comprises your name, your organisation, country of residence, and every of your contact information as needed.

7. Add your billing information.

If you’re using a Grey Card, make sure you’re signing up through the Chrome browser. When filling in your billing details, use the billing address and country associated with your Grey Card — not your residential address. You can find these details in your Grey app.

For the phone number section, simply enter your Nigerian number with the +234 country code, as AWS supports Nigerian numbers for verification.

8. Confirm your identity

After inputting your Country Code and phone number. A recaptcha security verification would be passed to you, after which a verification code would be sent to you.

9. Here we go, your AWS account has been successfully created.
