you needed to explain to me what it was exactly that made orpheus so terrifying it was that we never even heard eurydice’s voice that
which we know and imagine was love but see now as narcissus defying death for an obsession that never once dared to ask
do they want to come back
and i saw you look at riddy with the same reverence that devotees look at saints was it that you were never asked if you wanted all this
or if you wanted, at all, to be what you were asked to be you just did what you felt like you had to do and orpheus comes ripping you out
of a grace so hard-won in blood
in a prison that would make foucault blush you took those steps yourself and you thanked me and i smiled i realize now the role i played you
did not have to thank me at all it was all yours to begin with i simply held your hand through the dark there was no orpheus in this story
eurydice walked herself out of hades
