Plan for home lab server
The old home lab was no longer effective, both in terms of electricity and space.
Currently, there are simulators that can facilitate topology creation and running according to your lab, such as GNS3 VM, eve-ng, and pnet.
The plan to build a home lab has long been desired, but has been delayed due to laziness. The home lab will utilize from a refurbished PC. The PC’s specifications are:
Processor: i7 2600 Motherboard: Asrock B75M RAM: 16GB SSD: 512GB HDD: 1TB PSU: Cooler Master 450W Casing: Simbadda X Series (HTPC case)
The PC was initially intended for use as a home theater personal computer (HTPC) in covid day. However, since it was no longer effective, I will be using as a home lab server. The PC will be install Proxmox 8.4 (the latest version at the time of writing).
The plan is to install a Linux server virtual machine like Ubuntu or Windows Server, a simulator like PNET/eveng, or VMs related to security hobbies like Kali Linux and Vunerability Machine.
The downside to this home lab server is its limited 16GB of RAM. However, this is still better than a home lab with real devices. So, what will happen to the old home lab with the new one? Currently, the old home lab is gathering dust in the warehouse, maybe I will not sell it but rather for legacy for my kids someday.
