You got your 2D Echo report. You saw EF 60%. And your heart skipped a beat—ironically.

Here’s the truth: EF 60% is completely normal. Nothing dangerous. Nothing alarming.

EF stands for Ejection Fraction. It simply tells you how much blood your heart pushes out with every beat. According to the American Heart Association, anything between 55% and 70% is healthy. EF 60% sits right in the middle of that range.

Think of it this way—your heart is not supposed to empty completely with every beat. Keeping some blood inside is normal physiology. That leftover blood is not a problem.

But here is something most patients do not know—you can have an EF of 60% and still feel breathless or uncomfortable. That happens because EF only measures pumping function. It does not check valve health, artery condition, or how well your heart fills with blood. So never ignore your symptoms just because one number looks good.

If your report shows EF 60% with normal LV function and no significant valve findings—that is genuinely a good result.
