When I first saw those words — “All the women in me are tired” — on Instagram, I didn’t just relate. I felt exposed. Like someone had cracked open a door I had sealed shut years ago and quietly said: “Look. This is you.”

I am tired, A kind of tired that doesn’t go away with sleep. The kind you carry in your posture, in your silences.

Tired of the silence our grandmothers were forced to keep.

Tired of the sacrifices our mothers made, that no one names as sacrifices.

Tired of being the strong one, the first one, the only one, in spaces that notice our effort but never ask about its cost.

Yes, we’ve built homes. Families. Entire communities.

But somewhere along the way, we postponed meeting ourselves.

We are still trying to build a self we haven’t been given time to know.

And it’s not just the work.

It’s the walls around the work.

It’s the systems we’re trying to survive in.

These systems were never built for us, and it shows in every assumption made about us before we even speak. It shows in meetings where our voices are interrupted, in jobs where our dedication is questioned.

We walk into offices, into meetings, into rooms we fought hard to enter, only to find out they were never designed to hold us. We translate ourselves constantly. Code-switch. Overcorrect.

We fought to be here.

We worked twice as hard to be taken half as seriously. We dressed carefully, spoke carefully, moved carefully — because even showing up as ourselves felt like a risk. And after all that effort, all that breaking and bending to fit in, we arrived, only to find that the system was never meant to hold us. We enter workplaces where decisions are made in side conversations we’re not part of.

The system isn’t broken.

It’s working exactly as it was designed to.

Just not for us.

We are pushing against something that was not designed to support our rhythm and our realities. Because we are not just doing this for ourselves. We’re often the first, the only or one of the few.

The first in the family to graduate,

to earn a salary,

to get a title,

to sit at certain tables.

And being the first is a quiet kind of pressure no one talks about.

There’s pride, yes.

But also loneliness.

There’s no one ahead of us to tell us what’s next. No blueprint. No guide. No map.

And the generational gap.

Our mothers didn’t model this life, not because they didn’t want to, but because they were too busy surviving. They raised us with their hands full and their hearts worn thin. Many of them never got to be “professional women” because the world didn’t make space for them to be.

They carried the family, the home, the silence. They gave us strengt, without ever having the chance to rest in their own. And now we find ourselves living lives they never had the luxury to imagine.

We are walking into new territory, with no map, no script, just the echo of their sacrifices behind us and the pressure to make it all count.

Sometimes I feel like I’m walking forward with my eyes closed, grasping the hands of every woman I’ve been the versions of me I didn’t choose but had no choice but to become.

The scared girl who learned to hide her tears.

The quiet fighter who held her breath through the storm.

The woman who kept pretending she knew the way, even when she was lost.

The one who swallowed her fear.

All of them live inside me. And all of them are tired.

But still, here we are moving forward, together, even when the way is unclear.

Because to stop would mean leaving them behind.

And we don’t do that.
