Ys IX, Next. But, First, Ys X.
When will the hurting stop?!

So, after beating Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, my replay, I had gotten the idea to start Devil May Cry 5. Then something dawned on me while I was debating on playing the Classic Mode of the game with the little time I had left before I had to head to bed.
I got to thinking. “You know what, Devil May Cry 5 is already beaten, I just need to do the replay. Ys IX, however, hasn’t been touched yet”. So, now my focus shifts from DMC 5 to Ys IX. Now, there’s a very significant reason why I am doing this.
The rationale, I need to size the game up; to see if it’s worth my time. If I’m being honest, the last great Ys game I played was Ys VI: Ark of Napishtm. What a game! Elemental Swords, Continuous Upgrades, Epic Boss Battles, MP replenishment items, kick-ass locales; the list goes on and on!
Personally, I wish I had got to play Ys VII, I heard that game was badass. I played Ys VIII; that was trash! Now we come to the current entry in the Ys series, Ys IX. I even have Ys I: Memories of Celceta, I played a little of that and it is awesome!
I don’t know what it is about the Ys bloodline thinning and the games sucking with each generation, but so far the only good Ys games are VI, I, and VII. I swear it’s like the action/adventure of the single protagonist bloodline of Ys has thinned greatly because if you take Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana, I’m still like “what the hell was that?”
I heard that Ys X is in development based on one of the games from the past, I hope the developers bring their A-game because I am so sick and tired of being disappointed by Ys games. There’s a reason I replayed Ys VI over and over, it was that good.
Now, I might be doing the same thing to Ys I: Memories of Celceta on PS4. So tonight, I’m going to be starting Ys IX, and depending on how the game stacks up based on my standards, it’ll either be staying for the long haul or getting the hell out of dodge.
I get sometimes that developers want to follow a specific formula when it comes to certain games, I get it. But people, as the saying goes, if it's not broken, don’t fix it!
Ys VI was a game well before its time, VIII started out good, but when you have 3 people beating up on one enemy, I’m like, “nope, now you’re officially breathing my air!”
I mean, the biggest thing is that it isn’t even that many enemies around in Ys VIII to keep each character busy, I like being able to take enemies out by myself and I don’t want to feel like I need help from the two people whose attacks don’t do shit to the respective enemy type especially since only one characters’ special ability will wholly affect that monster only.
That was my gripe with Ys VIII. Yeah, you can have your comrades sit off to the side while you take care of that enemy of your choosing, enemies that die by a character’s something. But after a while, you’ll feel like, “why are they here at all?”.
This game has been out for a little while now so I have to imagine that these gripes were addressed, I have to believe that. I mean, if I can just play the game with Adol and then switch to another character whose abilities are needed then great, I just don’t want all 3 of them on screen. It’s not necessary.
That’s why I hope Ys IX is better because if not, I’ll have given up on the Ys series games due to the crappy innovative ideas of the battle system and lack of character ability to stand alone.
