It wasn’t about the movie
A few days ago, I went to the cinema to watch Michael, and I was genuinely excited about it. Later, my friend asked me how the movie was and how my experience went. The thing is, whenever I watch a movie or finish a book, I naturally explain everything deeply. I share every little detail because that’s how I express my excitement. I love talking about the story, the emotions, the scenes, and the things that stayed in my mind. So I started explaining things about Michael Jackson how famous he was, how his skin color changed over time, and many other details. While I was talking, he suddenly said, “You are dumb.” I asked him what he meant, and he replied, “You are explaining obvious things.” And honestly, at that moment, something changed inside me. The image I had of him didn’t feel attractive anymore. Because when someone is happily sharing something with you, it’s not really about whether the information is “obvious” or not. It’s about their excitement. It’s about the feeling behind their words. Good behavior is listening even when you already know the story. Maybe I explain too much sometimes. Maybe I repeat little details. But I’m proud of this habit of mine: I never get tired of listening to people. Because I don’t know how many times they were ignored before. I don’t know how many people made them feel unheard or unimportant. So if someone wants to explain something to me with excitement, why shouldn’t I give them a few minutes of kindness? It costs nothing to listen, but it can mean everything to the other person. I told him honestly that his behavior felt unattractive to me and that I didn’t like what he said. After that, he realized his mistake and started asking me again about the movie, telling me to continue. But by then, I had already understood something important: not everyone deserves your excitement. For me, little behaviors mean a lot. I know it may seem like a very small thing to others, but small actions and words can stay in someone’s heart for a very long time. Yes, after that we didn’t talk about the topic again, but his behavior stayed in my mind. Not because of the movie or the conversation, but because of how he made me feel while I was simply sharing something with happiness. Sometimes people think they are “just joking” or “just being honest,” but they don’t realize how deeply their behavior can hurt someone. A few careless words can quietly change the way a person sees you. So please, be kind with people. You never truly know what someone feels inside or how your behavior may stay in their mind long after the conversation ends. The world is already harsh enough. Give people those two or three minutes when they excitedly explain something to you. Let them speak. Let them feel heard
