Within the media of entertainment and music industry, searches for “Super Bowl 2026” and “Bad Bunny” have spiked dramatically in the start of January 2025.

But the biggest spike occurred when the NFL announced the headline performer lineup which naturally attracts viral online engagement.

Even though there was some traction on the searches for the Superbowl 2026, Bad Bunny’s search interest far outnumbered that of the Super Bowl itself. This suggests that by the NFL announcing the performer it brought more attention on Bad Bunny than the sporting event according to an analysis of the Google search data.

This trend shines light on how the current audiences are more drawn to the celebrity and cultural aspects of these larger events than the event itself.

Within the past few decades, the half time show has become one of the most highly regarded moments of the year which often led to online conversations and social engagement dominating the media.
