API GATEWAY VS LOAD BALANCER IN REAL-TIME ANALOGY
I always believe that complex technical concepts can be understood much better when explained using simple real-life examples.
In this diagram, I used an Airport Analogy to explain the difference between an API Gateway and a Load Balancer. A Load Balancer acts like a Check-in / baggage distributor (Same Service), sending requests to multiple servers performing the same task and Open extra counters (Horizontal Scaling)when people (Load) are more, whereas an API Gateway acts like the airport terminal desk (Interprets User request, checks the authenticity), directing passengers to different counters (Different services) based on the service they need.
Sometimes API Gateway can be a backend for the LB & Vice Versa depends on the System design and Architecture but the logic / purpose for each one remains the same.
Note: The image was generated using AI, but the analogy, concept, flow, and prompt were designed and provided by me. The goal was to make a commonly misunderstood cloud concept simple, visual, and easy for architects, engineers, and students to understand.
