I Built a Family Health Records App Because WhatsApp Was Our Medicine Cabinet

Medicines saved in group chats. Prescriptions lost. Doctor visits forgotten. I decided to fix this for my family and shipped MedKeep on Android.

I’m going to describe something that probably sounds familiar.

Your family’s medicine cabinet is a WhatsApp group. Lab reports sit in someone’s phone gallery. Your parents’ prescription is a blurry photo shared three months ago. You can’t remember the doctor’s name from the last visit. And every time someone needs to list their medications at a clinic, it’s fifteen minutes of “check your messages” and “I think it was that white tablet.”

That was my family. And I’m guessing it’s yours too.

Most people don’t have a “health records problem”, they just have a mess. It’s not one missing document, it’s that everything lives in the wrong place, notes apps, phone cameras, paper folders, WhatsApp threads, and human memory. None of it is organized, none of it is searchable, and none of it is there when you need it.

I couldn’t find an app that solved this simply. The options were either too clinical (designed for hospitals), too expensive, or built for a reality that doesn’t match how most families actually live. So I built one.

What MedKeep Does

MedKeep is a family health records app for Android. The core idea is simple: one place for everything health-related, for everyone in your family.

1. Family profiles, Add multiple members. Each person gets their own timeline of health data. No mixing up your father’s blood pressure history with your kid’s prescription
2. Medication tracking + reminders — Add medicines with dosage, frequency, and get reminders so nothing gets missed. Great for elderly family members managing multiple medications.
3. Vitals history — Log blood pressure, blood sugar, weight, temperature over time. Spot trends. Share a clean record with a doctor instead of saying “it was around 130 something last time.”
4. Doctor visits & appointments — Keep a log of every visit, what was discussed, what was prescribed, follow-up dates. Your entire medical timeline in one place.
5. Document storage with AI extraction — Upload lab reports, prescriptions, discharge summaries. The app reads the document and extracts key health data automatically, so you don’t have to type anything manually.
6. PDF health summary export — Generate a clean PDF of a family member’s health history. Print it or share it before a doctor visit. Incredibly useful for emergencies or when seeing a new specialist.

Everything works offline. Sync needs internet, but your data is always accessible on device.

Why This Problem Is Everywhere

Most families manage health the same way regardless of where they live reactively. Nothing gets recorded until there’s a crisis, and when the crisis hits, nobody can find anything.

A visit to a new specialist requires listing every medication your parent takes. You don’t know. An ER visit means recounting surgery history from memory. A pharmacy asks about allergies. You guess.

This isn’t a developing-world problem or a tech literacy problem. It’s a human problem. We don’t organize health information because nothing makes it easy enough to do consistently until something goes wrong.
