You’ve Gotta Be Knots!

OK, some caveman accidentally discovered a knot; he probably got twisted up in a tree branch or vine. They did not have rope, so he passed along to others the secret powers of this knot.

“Hey gang, look what I invented; if you get tangled in weeds, it might be one of these, and this is how you get out of it.”

“Hey, that's quite something, Thor. Now, if you can invent something for our feet, we can use these weeds to fasten them. Do you think we could use that to secure people to a pole so we can set them on fire?”

“No, we are going to need something better. Let’s invent rope, then we can play around with it.”

“What the hell is rope?”

“We can’t always assume there will be weeds or vines around when we need to fasten something. We can open a hardware store and sell this rope along with poles and nails.”

“What’s a store?”

“We don’t have any yet, but I’m thinking we need to have somewhere to buy this kind of shit. You got a better idea?”

“Look, my life expectancy is only twelve more days, so I’m not worrying about this rope and hardware stores. Let’s go look for something to eat.”

“It would be great if we had a piece of rope and we could have a loop with a slipknot; we could throw it around the deer’s head. That sure would beat trying to tackle it.”

“You’re full of great ideas. First, you come up with this knot thing, then you want something for our feet so we can create another knot, and you want hardware stores, ropes with loops, and more knots. I think I would be happy with something to start a fire. Just sayin'!
