Bottle
I often find myself wondering about the messages drifting inside bottles tossed into the ocean. Sometimes it’s a note intended for a specific soul, sometimes a curse, and other times it holds a physical token — like a bracelet or a necklace. We like to think these items are sealed away for safekeeping. But is that the truth? Or is it simply because the sender couldn’t bring themselves to give it to the person on their mind? Perhaps they are just unspoken words, cast into the waves for the sake of finally letting go.
A bottle serves as a vessel for whatever we hold sacred — whether that is an unexpressed feeling, a bitter grudge, a deep love, or a quiet hatred. We humans operate the exact same way. But instead of glass, we bury it all within ourselves.
Why do we do that? When you desperately want to say something to someone, why choose silence over a face-to-face confrontation? You keep it to yourself, but does that actually serve you? Or does it just build a wall between you and the truth? How does that silence make you feel? Happy? Sad? Relieved?
So, you’ve hidden your emotions away, sealing them inside your own internal bottle. But every vessel has its threshold; once it’s full, the pressure builds until it shatters. Just. Like. You. “Just like me?” you wonder. Yes. It is a devastating pain when all your suppressed feelings finally explode because the burden became too heavy to carry. So tell me, which is more painful: enduring the slow agony of your own limits, or braving the immediate sting of speaking up?
Eventually, the weight might force you to push everyone away, convinced you’ve simply had enough. Or, you become the Pierrot — putting on a show, entertaining everyone around you with a smile, while choosing absolute silence despite having a universe of things left to say.
So you keep playing the part. You smile, you laugh, and you act like the glass isn’t cracking. But eventually, the ocean takes the bottle, or the bottle breaks right where it stands. We think hiding things protects us from the storm, but really, we are just drowning in our own quiet waters. In the end, maybe the hardest part isn’t deciding whether to speak or stay silent — it’s realizing that you were never meant to be a container for things left unsaid. You were meant to breathe.
