PRAY! WRITE! WORKS!

Today, I am inspired:

by my phone’s camera roll. My Three Words for this week are: Love You Forever.

Browsing through my phone’s photos, I see screenshots of pasta recipes, inspirational quotes, saved texts, business advice, book covers snapped while perusing book stores, hair products to try, scripture translations, videos of the hawk and ground hog squatting in my backyard, with actual photos and selfies scattered throughout. I don’t keep a lot of pictures on my phone, I’m not sure why not. I will often look through them hoping I still have a pic of a now long gone, almost forgotten moment. But, more than likely, I don’t.

My mom was the family photographer. She enjoyed putting together about a dozen volumes of photos from her 70 year lifetime. She often looked through them, clearly reminiscing, saying “‘do you remember…..?” Those albums now sit in my home in a towering stack on the floor until I relocate them to their next shelf abode. I often wonder what will happen to them when I’m gone. Will the next generation stack them on a shelf, the floor, or put into a bin in their homes? I guess now would be a good time to check in with them to see who will become the next Keeper of the Photo Albums. Maybe if I add a mysterious air to it, a sacred oath, or a medallion they have to wear then one of them will rise and accept the mantle.

Have you ever been in a thrift store and seen old photos of people and realized that was someone’s actual family? That always leaves me kinda sad, like, is there no one that could have kept it? Living in such a digital age now, many people don’t have back in the day print family photos. Polaroids of us as babies, Olan Mills family portraits, backyard birthday parties, outdoor high school graduations, Christmas morning with all the neighborhood kids on Big Wheels, or just a regular day outside. Snapshots from the 50’s, 60’s, 70’s, 80’s, on into the 90's. But, we do. Sometimes, I find myself picking up the albums, flipping pages, smiling through tears saying, “I remember this!”
