Frequency Change sets the word and the count. It’s up to us to turn it into magic in the form of a fiction story. The word count today is 269.

Also, did you know that your support and engagement is like cactus juice for writers? That means we get seen, heard, and a strange prickly feeling in our fingers.

Cali had just finished her second pint of ice cream when there was a knock at the door. Licking the spoon clean and tossing it in the sink on the way to the front door, she pressed her tongue to the roof of her mouth to halt the brain freeze.

“Hawo?” She cracked the door open slightly, keeping the chain lock still on.

“Yes, hi, I am here on behalf of the convenience store downstairs with a note from the manager, something ‘bout ice cream?” An uncertain teenager avoided eye contact and thrust a folded note at her.

“Oh, I hope they got that strawberry cheesecake flavor in again, that shit was the bomb.”

The teen just shrugged awkwardly before shuffling away.

Closing the door, she headed back to the kitchen to grab another carton from the freezer, popping the note open.

Hey Cali,

Unfortunately, our freezer has malfunctioned, and we have to empty it out, FAST. Feel free to come down and grab some ice cream before it melts.

Some might call her fanatical, but in her opinion, she just settled for a strange coping mechanism. And after the long week she’d had working with a finnicky client and a testy boss, this was the relief from heaven that would save her.

How kind of the store owner to think of her.

She quickly shoved her feet into the closest pair of flops by the door, mismatched and still with one sock on, and bolted out to the stairs. She didn’t have time for the creaky sleepy elevator. “I’m coming, I’m coming!!”

Maybe her luck was finally turning.

What are your favorite ice cream flavors? I personally loved a good cookie dough and Oreo. Or pralines and cream. Ugh. If only I wasn’t lactose intolerant.
