Frugal Film Project Part 3, July 2025

I know you’ve been dying for this post. You love it, you want it, you need it…

The third Frugal Film Project Post is here, dudes!

Take a cheap(ish) film camera (for me it’s a Lomography Lubitell 166 Universal that I snagged off of ebay for about $40) and a cheap(ish) film (for me it’s Kodak Gold 200) and shoot one roll a month for a whole year. Super simple (at least until it gets cold outside)!

I started in May and continued through June and now that today is August 1st and July is over, here’s the roll I shot in July! I took all of these on July 4, 2025 on what used to be known as Independence Day in the country formerly known as the United States of America that is now known as maga trump nazi asshole pedophile land. I started at Hampton Beach in Hampton Beach, NH and worked my way North into Rye, NH before turning around and stopping at a little park in Amesbury, MA.

The camera shoots 120 film with a 6x6 aspect ration which means I get 12 shots in the roll. Now that you have the entire back story, here we go with the pics…….

My usual beach photography trips are specifically to watch the sun come up over the ocean. I was an hour or so too late for that this time

There is a marina in Rye. I tried to pull into the parking lot but there was a guard shack blocking the entrance so I just pulled over on the side of the road a little ways up the street

And now for the joke. In each of the first two Frugal Film Project posts I mention how shocked I was that all 12 images came out okay. None of them were ruined nightmares at all. Well, I can’t say that about month number three because we have this masterpiece……..

I have no clue what happened there. None at all. I took a bunch of 35mm shots that day too. How about I throw one of those in there just to give us a nice round number of 12 pics that aren’t horrible disasters.

And there we have it, folks. Round three of the Frugal Film Project. Three down, nine to go. When I posted the first two months’ pics I had already shot the next month’s roll. Since today is August 1st and I have been at work all day, I can say without shame that I have not taken a single shot for August yet. I will probably blow through a whole roll within the next day or two though. It’s easy when you only get 12 shots, right?
