BOBIP acts as an extra layer on top of existing models, accelerating learning by strategically enhancing their effectiveness. Depending on the context, BOBIP integrates and complements traditional approaches — be it personal development models, group learning frameworks, or technology-driven learning paradigms. Relationships within teams (not just the group as a whole) play a critical role in aligning individual motivations ( intrinsic but also positional motivation) with the collective vision.

Amy Edmondson’s research on psychological safety emphasizes the importance of creating environments where individuals feel safe to share ideas, take risks, and express concerns. While her work focuses on fostering trust and open communication within teams, it’s crucial to recognize that psychological safety isn’t solely a collective endeavor — it’s deeply personal. Feeling safe is often shaped by the quality of relational dynamics between team members, the topic the space. Additionally, discomfort, when paired with trust, can drive growth and adaptability. Therefore, organizations must balance safety with constructive tension to encourage meaningful learning and innovation. Try to encourage within a team risk-taking without overstepping into discomfort that stifles learning. It is a constant balancing depending on the relations ( topic, individuals, context,…). While safety is important, relationships are the foundation for this safety.
1.2.3. Jean Lave & Etienne Wenger (Communities of Practice)
Jean Lave and Etienne Wenger introduced the concept of communities of practice (CoP) to describe how groups of people with a shared passion or profession learn through collective experiences and interactions. Their work highlights that learning is a social process, deeply rooted in shared practices and relationships. However, CoPs do not automatically foster strong relationships within a group. Cognitive trust — confidence in others’ expertise — and affective trust — feeling connected to others — are crucial but often underdeveloped. Sometimes we see knowledge hoarding due to competitive dynamics or relational fatigue in poorly managed communities. Relational interactions (beyond shared practices) influence the CoP’s effectiveness. For example, relational misalignments can hinder both individual and group learning. Poorly managed CoPs can exacerbate these challenges, leading to fragmented communities rather than cohesive ones. We don ‘t see real relational technology yet, most design are focused on a more transactions like Learning Management Systems, very structured, which kills relationships. Social platforms for discussions don’t take into account the power relations between individual learners which can play a broader role.

Jane Hart advocates for a shift in workplace learning, emphasizing agile, self-directed, and continuous learning. She views learning as an ongoing, integrated process, not separate from daily work. Hart promotes the use of digital tools like social media and learning platforms to empower individuals to take charge of their development, with a focus on informal learning through collaboration and experience.
While Hart’s approach fosters a collaborative learning culture, there are limitations in how these tools support relationships. Collaborative platforms often focus on communication and knowledge sharing but may overlook deeper relational dynamics. These aspects are essential for creating authentic, meaningful relations that drive real learning and growth.
In short, while Hart’s model supports modern, flexible learning, it’s crucial to integrate relational elements alongside digital tools to foster deeper, more genuine relationships that enhance both individual and collective learning.

Donald Clark argues that AI can transform workplace learning by personalizing content and creating adaptive, scalable learning environments. To create truly effective learning environments, AI needs to be integrated with a focus on relationships and dynamics, supporting both individual and collective growth.

George Siemens introduced connectivism, a learning theory tailored to the digital age. Unlike traditional theories that focus on individual cognition, connectivism emphasizes the role of networks — people, systems, and digital tools — in shaping knowledge and learning.
