Bloctopus is bringing T-REX (ERC‑3643), the RWA Tokenisation standard, closer to Institutions

In my last post, “ERCs Growing Up: A Story of Evolving Tokenisation Standards”, I traced the journey from plain‑vanilla ERC‑20s to today’s richer, compliance‑aware token standards. This time, we’re rolling up our sleeves and getting hands‑on with ERC‑3643 (aka T‑REX): the permissioned RWA tokenisation framework stewarded by Tokeny.

Why the spotlight? Because ERC‑3643 bakes the compliance layer directly into the smart contract, instead of bolting it on through off‑chain wrappers. That makes a world of difference for anyone issuing real‑world asset (RWA) tokens. That is also the reason that ERC-3643 is an independent and neutral association, which brings together various RWA Tokenisation companies (including Tokeny, APEX Group, Tokenyze, etc.), currently >20 listed on their website, and a total of >130 members: https://erc3643.org/members

What makes T‑REX different?

Now, an asset issuer can A/B test a plain ERC‑20 against T‑REX side‑by‑side. This helps toke issuers visualise what “embedded compliance” really means

1. Identity built in: Every wallet that holds the token has an on‑chain ID. KYC and business checks are stored on the blockchain, not in private databases
2. Token management guardrails: Compliance rules like who can own it, who can trade it, or when it can be sold are handled on-chain, within the smart contracts, instead of off‑chain by the company’s internal systems. This means T-REX tokens “know” who’s allowed to hold or transfer them, and would block trades that break the rules — automatically, without a middleman
3. No vendor lock‑in: Because logic is on‑chain, tokens stay operable even if the tokenisation provider disappears, or they can switch to another provider as their needs change over time. True decentralization
