A New Constellation of Martyrs
A New Constellation of Martyrs
No matter how much we speak or write of the martyr, we can never truly do him justice. Words are insufficient to convey his stature or his sacrifice. It is enough that the martyr lives on, sustained by God, even if he is deemed dead in the eyes of men. It is enough that he enters Paradise without reckoning.
Another group of Kurdistan Peshmerga has joined the ranks of those who have laid down their lives for homeland and dignity – for the hope of a free and honourable life. They follow a people who have given thousands of martyrs: martyrs of freedom, of devotion to their land, of steadfast refusal to bow before any but God Almighty. They were raised in love of country and in noble virtues, shaped by a spirit of sacrifice for a brighter tomorrow, despite the gravest injustices committed against them.
March is a month etched deeply in Kurdish memory – a month in which countless lives have been lost. It is also the month of spring, of Nawroz: a season of renewal, freedom and hope. Yet even as nature is reborn, sacrifice continues, and blood is still shed at the hands of those who oppose freedom and humanity.
However fiercely the enemies may act, their violence will not instil fear. Rather, it strengthens resolve and deepens determination to continue the journey towards a life of dignity and liberty.
Whatever the enemies attempt, the Kurdish people will kneel to none but God. No weapon – however prohibited or destructive – can break their will. History bears witness to this enduring truth: the Kurdish people remain proud, unyielding, and resolute.
The bombardment of the Kurdistan Peshmerga will not weaken their ranks, nor diminish their spirit. It will only harden their determination to defend Kurdistan and its peaceful people – people who have not sought war, yet whose sons have long stood for peace and stability in the region.
Strikes against Kurdistan – whether by missiles or drones, and under pretexts divorced from reality – constitute a grave breach of international law, a violation of human rights, and a disregard for the principles of the United Nations Charter, if such principles are indeed to be meaningfully upheld.
Glory and eternity to the martyrs. Their sacrifice shall not be in vain, and those who have committed injustice will, in time, face the consequences of their deeds.
