From B2B Software to Content Innovation: My Seven-Year Growth Journey
A few years ago, I signed up for Medium. At that time, I had just embarked on my first formal entrepreneurial journey. I had dabbled in startups during my school days, but that felt more like minor experimentation. Initially, I worked in a startup focusing on B2C product growth and operations. Then, in 2016, when I was 24, I officially began my entrepreneurial journey, focus to digital transformation and innovation services in the B2B service. Over the past seven years, my primary clientele has been in China, mainly dealing with customer growth and sales.

As many of you may know, China’s economy has been facing challenges, and establishing a B2B SaaS or development service in China without relying heavily on personal connections feels almost impossible. As a new mother, I did not want to be caught up in the cycle of wining and dining for projects daily. So, starting from last year, I began exploring international markets, aiming to provide products and services that cater to a global audience.
Diving into the global market has been quite the roller coaster for me. Every day feels like a new lesson, and boy, the differences between the Chinese market and others are sometimes like night and day! I’ve come to realize that the expertise and strategies I honed over the past seven years aren’t always directly transferable. The journey continues, and adaptation becomes the name of the game. The following are the main difference:

In the U.S. market, inbound marketing is crucial for growth, with content marketing being paramount. However, producing consistent content isn’t a walk in the park for individuals or companies. When I launched my first overseas product in 2022, I hired a freelancer on Upwork to manage the content creation. But due to the COVID, he intermittently vanished, raising concerns about the reliability of individual contributors. Later, I partnered with an agency to devise and implement a growth marketing strategy, focusing primarily on blogging and LinkedIn. Despite shelling out $5,000 a month, six months down the line, I hadn’t secured a single meaningful client call.
I decided to let the agency go and took matters into my own hands. The process was agonizingly slow. Regardless of the growth strategy in play, significant time investments were inevitable. Consequently, I gravitated towards quicker marketing methods like Google ads and Twitter ads. Deep down, I wrestled with this approach. I recognized the significance of content marketing, but I was strapped for time and struggled to maintain consistency. I knew content marketing was a long game, a strategy that would only bear fruit with consistent effort over time.
Then came GPT, which felt like a beacon of hope. I began using GPT to craft articles, managing to churn out ten pieces in a single day for my blog. Yet, I still couldn’t sustain this momentum, leading me to question, “Why?”
The challenges of properly formatting articles on the website, adjusting for SEO, deciding on the article topics, and determining the right keywords remained significant hurdles. I sampled a myriad of tools available on the market, only to find that most primarily addressed the challenge of writing higher-quality articles. What I yearned for was an all-in-one service that would assist in content planning, topic mapping, keyword selection, and the automated generation of SEO-compliant articles followed by their auto-publishing. Simply put, I wanted an AI employee. Faced with a market void of such a product, I contemplated, “Could I create a solution to address my own needs?”
This self-reflection spurred the genesis of my third entrepreneurial endeavor: GetMax AI. This wasn’t merely another tool on the market; it represented a solution to the intricate content challenges faced by numerous B2B enterprises. Think of it as an AI-driven content marketer, intricately designed to understand and navigate the intricacies of content marketing, simplifying the entire process.
GetMax is still in its infancy, and I believe many entrepreneurs likely face the same challenges I’ve encountered. I’m eager to connect with others who share similar needs, so we can collaboratively refine and enhance this product. If you’d like to discuss any topics related to content marketing, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me.
