Black History Is Not a Side Note

Black history has too often been treated like an extra chapter instead of part of the main story.

It gets placed in a separate box, a separate month, a separate lesson, a separate conversation. But Black history is not separate from American history. It is woven through the foundation of this country, from labor and invention to music, military service, education, politics, business, art, faith, family, language, and culture.

When Black history is treated like a side note, people miss the full picture.

They learn names without context. They learn dates without impact. They learn famous moments without understanding the people who lived through them. They hear about struggle, but not always brilliance. They hear about pain, but not always creation. They hear about oppression, but not always strategy, courage, talent, and legacy.

That is one reason I created LataraSpeaksTruth.

I wanted a space where Black history could be told with more care, more depth, and more intention. Not as a quick mention. Not as a trend. Not as a box to check. But as history that deserves to be studied, remembered, and preserved.

Some stories are painful. Some are powerful. Some are beautiful. Some are complicated. Some make you proud. Some make you angry. Some make you sit back and realize how much was left out.

All of that belongs in the record.

Black history is not only about what was done to us. It is also about what was built by us. It is about the people who created businesses, shaped music, changed laws, served in wars, raised families, taught children, protected communities, invented tools, opened doors, told stories, and carried culture forward.

That is why these stories matter.

Because when history leaves people out, memory becomes incomplete.

LataraSpeaksTruth is my way of helping preserve the fuller picture. One story at a time. One name at a time. One image at a time. One piece of context at a time.

Black history is not a side note.

It is part of the whole story.

And it deserves to be told like it belongs there.
