Donald Trump is taking the IRS and Treasury Department to court, suing them for $10 billion over a leaked tax info scandal. The leak, which happened between 2018 and 2020, allegedly exposed Trump’s confidential tax records, causing “reputational and financial harm” to him, his sons Eric and Donald Jr., and the Trump Organization.
The leak was traced back to Charles Edward Littlejohn, a former IRS contractor who worked for Booz Allen Hamilton. He was sentenced to five years in prison in 2024 for leaking tax info about Trump and other high-profile individuals, including Jeff Bezos and Elon Musk, to The New York Times and ProPublica. The disclosure broke IRS Code 6103, a strict confidentiality law.
The leaked info led to reports that Trump didn’t pay federal income tax for several years prior to 2020. Trump claims the leak hurt his reputation and impacted his 2020 presidential election support.
