Surface matters

I took a sip and realized that surface matters.

Water eases nerves

but juice seems to be the pleasant drink in my thoughts

thoughts are not written on my face

reminding me that no one hears them.

Words matter.

No matter what your heart intends

it can’t be torn open to know

hence, actions matter.

Not everything is individualistic

nor everything only affects someone

what you live by has consequences

how can it then not include others.

Trends surface

again, surface matters

painted nails are more polished than mehndi art

khameez won’t stand out without matching stilettos

sunglasses finish off that modest cloth

it seems that one thing doesn’t suffice

layers seem to complete the incomplete.

Notice carefully how they compete

two-storeyed or three-storeyed house

they commonly inquire

counting the number of cars may or may not be more significant

than the brand names of sophisticated vehicles

Poshness must be the highlight.

That’s all they crave for

or fear of not having.

If you ask me

worldly titles and achievements cease to exist as valuables

as far as God’s eye is concerned.

Alas, people’s eyes seem more dangerous than their wicked mindset.

Again suffer matters

even if it is the product of mere nincompoop

thoughts and beliefs.

How “romanticizing materialism” becomes the character

of the oblivious victim of capitalism.

Albeit no one notices

like they unnotice the plight of the black people

‘cause these people don’t seem to be carrying an honourable cause

as they don’t catch enough of your attention

unless your eyes stayed longer than a few seconds

which happens only once in a blue moon

‘cause dramatic footage only appears once in a while.

Their inner struggles are invisible

see how the surface again mattered.

But now beware of your condition.

Emptiness has filled the void within you

as your soul is not well tamed with the contagious belief of one God.

Believing in an unseen god needs courage

because He is not at the surface

but is closer to you than your jugular veins

again something your eyes can’t witness

yet conviction can open the eyes of your heart

and your spirit.

Miracles run deep into the depth.

Then why is it that people are satisfied with only the surface

is what is glistening more valuable than the illuminating hidden pearl

which needs enough struggles to surface.

If only people knew surface doesn’t matter

unless the unavoidable truth surfaces.
