Preparing for the CIA Exam?…Read!!

The CIA is a globally recognized certification for auditors. The very good thing with its exam is that you can take it anytime you are ready for it. You can also retake it as many times as you fail it. This must be within a three year window anyways. Here are a few things to note about this exam.

The exam has three parts, (CIA 1, 2 and 3)

You will need to buy materials for studies. This can be from Gleim or Hock International (the most common). You will need application fees, exam fee and possibly, tuition fee if you will not do a self study. For the application fee, it will depend on whether you are a student (you need to prove this) of a member of the IIA or a non member.

Students pay a lot cheaper than members and non members pay the highest fee in the process. Another thing to note is that to become a member, you will be required to pay an annual membership fee.

After you have taken all three parts of the exams, you will be required to prove work experience which will depend on the level of academic qualification you started with. First degree holders require 2years. Masters holders require 12 months while those with a lower diploma will need a lot more time . This prove most be signed by a CIA or your supervisor. Note that as an ACCA, you do not need to prove experience.

For you to pass the exam, you need a score of 600/750 that is 16/20 or 80%. If you fail any part, you need to wait for 2 months to retake it again. This does not in any way stop you from taking other parts.
